Propertymark's The Future of Renting

Propertymark are talking sense about the Government's plans to reform the private rented sector in England.

The Future of Renting position paper from Propertymark is suggesting that the BEIS "must move away from a one-size fits all policy and develop energy efficiency proposals that work with the different age, condition, and size of properties. This way the UK Government can target grants and funding support based on the architype of a property rather than its tenure".

This is not about changing the EPC, nor is it criticising the goal of the minimum energy efficiency standard (MEES) and how it uses the EPC. What Propertymark are talking about (in very sensible terms) is more accurately targeting support for carrying out the EPC recommendations at where there is the greatest benefit and lowest ability to pay.

To us, that makes total sense. The relevant energy efficiency part of The Future of Renting position paper from Propertymark is page 15. The document is available from the link below.

The Future of Renting (Propertmark)

Proficiency wholeheartedly agrees with the "SUPPORT THE SECTOR TO REDUCE ITS CARBON FOOTPRINT" section of Propertymark's The Future of Renting position paper (page 15).

The purpose of EPCs is to be a driver for positive change, and it is what is done as a result of the EPC that actually makes a difference. BEIS need to focus funding on supporting the delivery of essential energy efficiency measures where they are hardest to achieve or otherwise least likely to happen.
