Retrofit Design Guidance Update

parliament

TrustMark, in collaboration with their Scheme Providers, have published an updated PAS2035:2023 Retrofit Design Guidance to assist in the preparation of retrofit designs and supporting documentation. This guidance aims to help professionals comply with the requirements of PAS2035:2023.

The guide is organised into clear, accessible sections covering all aspects of retrofit design. Each section references specific paragraphs of PAS2035:2023 and includes notes on evidence requirements where applicable.

There are 15 revisions listed in PAS20235:2023, not all of which directly impact on compliant retrofit design compliance. Some key ones to note include:

  • PAS 2035 guidance clauses have been updated.
  • The risk assessment process has been simplified.
  • There is a change of emphasis from measures-based retrofit to whole dwelling retrofit.
  • There is some clarification of the role of the Retrofit Coordinator, including site visits and recording of non-compliance.
  • Clarification is provided of what happens if historic significance is identified.
  • Retrospective compliance for distressed replacement of heating appliances has a defined process.

The document ends with providing a straightforward Retrofit Design Checklist to help ensure the design is compliant with PAS2035:2023

PAS 2035/2030:2023 provides guidelines for retrofitting dwellings to improve energy efficiency. It must be used for work funded under government energy efficiency schemes such as:

  • The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4)
  • The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF)
  • The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG)
  • The Green Home Grant Local Authority Delivery Scheme (GHGLAD)
  • The Warm Homes Discount (WHD)

The PAS2035:2023 document itself can be downloaded HERE

This is an evolving process and anyone experiencing difficulties in applying the guidance should raise their concerns in the Retrofit section of the Proficiency forum. From there our Retrofit Team can pick out the salient points and attempt to get them considered in future updates.
