The long awaited consultation into "Reforms to the Energy Performance of Buildings regime" is now open. (aka EPC Reform).
Input to this consultation (and what the Government subsequently do with it) will determine whether we are about to make great strides or small steps towards improving the energy efficiency of buildings and the net zero objective.
Significant mistakes have been made in the past and must not be repeated. A lot should have been learned since the regulations were first introduced in 2007. There is a massive amount of valuable experience to draw on. The question is whether the people making policy now are wise enough to realise it.
Smart people learn from their mistakes. Wise people learn from other people's mistakes. We are too far down the road for policy makers to have the luxury of making more mistakes to learn from. Humanity itself needs wise people to start to do the right things without further delay.
Now is the time for energy assessors to speak up on what works and what doesn’t. It is time for the voices of experience from working with the tools we currently have, to be heard louder than the voices of the vested interest organisations.
Energy assessors should not miss the opportunity to have your say. The consultation can be accessed

Proficiency will be contributing to the consultation as the voice of the energy assessor community. As the national Professional Body for energy assessors, it is what we do.
The larger our membership, the louder our voice. There has never be a more important time for energy assessors to come together and unite with a single voice. The best way you can show you care about EPCs and their place in combating climate change is by being a member of Proficiency and helping us to help you.
